What parts of Modrinth is your feature request related too?

Modrinth App

Is your suggested feature related to a problem? Please describe.

Every time a new version releases, you have to:

  1. Create a new instance
  2. Manually re-add all your mods
  3. Manually re-configure all your settings
  4. Spend the next few weeks manually checking if new mods have been updated

This isn't just a minor inconvinience, it's incredibly tedious and time-consuming.

Describe the solution you'd like

Here's how to instantly make Modrinth the best launcher out there.

Add an option to update/downgrade instances,
e.g. Right click -> Switch version -> Change this instance / create new instance

  1. When updating an instance, also update mods (while keeping configs)
  2. If a mod hasn't yet been updated, temporarily disable it
  3. Once it is updated, automatically re-enable it (or notify the user)

This would greatly reduce the effort needed to switch/update to new versions. No other launcher has this.

Describe alternatives you've considered

If you're worried about API load, you could implement the same functionality - but without the automatic update checks after the initial instance change. Instead, you could replace them with a Check for updates button - which would decrease the API load, but kinda defeat the purpose of the feature.
