`rnk version` command does not work

It's because it tries to access https://renkulab.io/ui-server/api/search/version which gives a not found error.

This should be more robust and the whole version command should not completely error out if a remote can't be found, instead maybe just do Search Services: unavailable, or remove search services version completely? Why is this even here? The CLI does not use search afaik.

I think we should try to get something from the api but if it does not return anything or is not available we should not fail. We can simply report only the version of the cli and exit.

And I have no clue why we are getting the search version. We should be getting the renku version. But we dont even have an endpoint for that. So maybe we fully drop this part.

Currerntly stuff like https://renkulab.io/api/data/version will return just the data services version.

there is https://renkulab.io/config.json that can get the renku chart version.

But I don't know if that is even useful in the CLI? I think it's only useful if the CLI tracks the chart version, e.g. in kubectl if I see my CLI is on 1.35.1 but the cluster is on 1.28.3, that tells me something as a user, namely that my CLI might be too new for this cluster.

But rnk version 0.1.0, renku platform version 2.14.3, the 2.14.3 doesn't really add anything? Maybe as some info for support staff if it's used on a separate renku deployment that we don't know the version of?

Yes it should be more robust.

Before addressing some questions, first I want to clarify that the current state was a head start a long time ago. No more time was allocated to this project since then. I would have liked to move it more forward 🤷🏼.

Why it is here: The version command was added, because I found it myself always too hard to figure the versions used at the backend. I wanted a version command that would show the version of some key components. Now that the search service is reomved, it is erroring. It should be more robust and not just fail if data-services or whatever service is not there. The cli doesn't use search, but the version command was meant to return the version of key components of renku. Back then the search service was a part of it (in my eyes at least).

There is a --client-only flag that skips the server version retrieval.

If we don't want to expose versions of renku components, the version command can be removed.
