Yes they're abusing MC-265322 to detect what mods are installed. Currently the easiest way around this is using a mod like ExploitPreventer.

It should be possible to work around this using a RecvPacket and SendPacket event handler, detect the server sending the packets with jsmacros translation keys, then replacing it with a known random string to prevent minecraft from translating it, then in the SendPacket handler, detect the response and replace that random string back with the jsmacros key.

An interesting approach to fixing it... anyways, the long future fix is to use a custom translation system instead of mojangs.
